Between the Agriates Desert and Cap Corse, Saint-Florent is a charming little port at the head of a gulf. All around, the Nebbio region offers vineyards, hilltop villages and Romanesque heritage. Here are our ideas for making the most of your stay.
The old port and the citadel
The marina and its café terraces are the beating heart of Saint-Florent, especially in the evening. Climb up to the Genoese citadel for the view over the gulf at sunset.
The Nebbio cathedral
On the edge of the village, the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a masterpiece of 12th-century Pisan Romanesque art. A short and very photogenic visit.
Patrimonio wines
A few minutes from the apartment, Patrimonio is Corsica’s first wine appellation. Many estates offer tastings of reds, rosés and muscats.
The beaches
La Roya beach, west of the village, can be reached on foot or by bike. For the Lotu and Saleccia beaches, take the boat shuttle from the harbour.
Cap Corse
In a single day, the Cap Corse road takes you to Nonza, a village perched above a black pebble beach, and on to the harbour of Centuri, renowned for its spiny lobster. The views are among the finest on the island.
The villages of the Nebbio
Oletta, Murato and its two-tone stone chapel of San Michele, the backroads of the hinterland: a lesser-known side of Corsica, best explored in spring or autumn.
