Propriano is the perfect starting point for exploring South Corsica. In less than an hour’s drive, you can go from the sea to granite villages, from prehistoric sites to the mountains. Here are our ideas for a one- or two-week holiday.
Strolling around Propriano
The marina, the shopping streets and the fish restaurants set the tone. In the evening, a walk along the harbour is a summer must.
Sartène, the granite town
About 15 minutes away, Sartène has kept its character: granite houses, a lively main square and stepped lanes. The surrounding wine estates offer tastings of Sartène appellation wines.
Filitosa and its statue-menhirs
About 30 minutes away, Filitosa is the most famous prehistoric site in Corsica. Its statue-menhirs, carved with faces and weapons, are more than 3,000 years old. Allow one to two hours for your visit.
The Baracci baths
A few minutes from Propriano, these natural hot springs have been known since antiquity. A pleasant interlude in spring or autumn.
Other ways to enjoy the sea
Boat trips to the coves of the gulf, diving in the waters of the Valinco, kitesurfing and windsurfing at Porto Pollo, where the wind blows steadily in the afternoon.
Day trips
- Bonifacio (about 1 hr 15 min): the town perched on its limestone cliffs, and the boat trip out to the sea caves.
- Roccapina (about 40 minutes): the beach and the famous Lion rock.
- The needles of Bavella (about 1 hr 15 min): mountain hiking and swimming in the natural river pools.
